Custom panel configurations. 5 panels, 6 panels, asymmetric arrangements, mixed sizes within a single installation. For clients with specific wall dimensions or design requirements, we build the panel configuration around the space rather than asking the space to accommodate a standard format.
Diptych
2 panels. Two equal panels side by side. Clean, balanced, works well with images that have a natural central division - a horizon line, a architectural symmetry, a composition that splits naturally at the midpoint.
Triptych
3 panels. The classic. Three panels with equal spacing. Works extraordinarily well with panoramic images - cityscapes, landscapes, architectural photography - where the thirds each carry enough visual interest to stand independently while contributing to the whole.
Quad
4 panels. Four panels in a row or a two-by-two grid configuration. For wider walls and larger scale installations. The grid configuration works particularly well in square or near-square spaces where a purely horizontal arrangement wouldn't sit correctly.
What Makes a Great Split Print Image
At Art Smiley Biz, we plan every split print carefully before anything goes to production. We look at where the natural division points are in the image. We consider what each individual panel needs to carry visually to feel complete in itself. We think about the gap spacing and how it interacts with the proportions of the image.
Some images that work particularly well as split prints include wide panoramic cityscapes - Dubai's skyline across three or four panels is consistently one of our most popular requests. Abstract compositions where the colour and form flow naturally across the panels. Landscape photography with horizontal depth - desert dunes, ocean horizons, mountain ranges. Spacing, Sizing and Specifications
The gap between panels is a design decision, not just a practical one. Too narrow and the splits feel like a production limitation rather than a deliberate choice. Too wide and the image fragments. The right gap depends on the image, the scale, and the wall dimensions - and we'll recommend the optimal spacing for your specific installation.
Panel sizes within a split print are typically equal - but don't have to be. Asymmetric configurations, where panels of different widths carry different elements of the composition, are something we design and produce for clients who want something genuinely bespoke.
Acrylic thickness for split prints follows the same logic as our single-panel range - 4mm or 6mm for smaller to medium installations, 8mm or 10mm for larger pieces where the weight and presence of each panel needs to be substantial.
Mounting Options for Split Prints
Split prints are most commonly mounted with standoff fixings - the floating effect works particularly well across multiple panels, creating a consistent depth and shadow across the whole installation. Flush wall mounting is also available for spaces where the standoff aesthetic isn't the right fit.
Alignment across multiple panels is critical
even a millimetre of variation in the vertical positioning of individual panels is visible once the image is divided across them. Our installation team uses laser levels and precise measurement to ensure every panel in a split installation is perfectly aligned.
